Balls are plastic and glued together. Plastic lost its shiny metallic finish very quickly (making me wonder if that metallic stuff rubbed off inside me). They broke open when dropped and I couldnt trust the balls to stay together when snapped back in place, so I had to throw them away. The glue keeping the strings set in the balls is very hard and because it is along the strings for 1/4 or so where they connect to the balls, balls are actually somewhat sharp at top and bottom, making this product occasionally uncomfortable to use. The vibro action is caused by ball bearings rolling around inside the balls (which I got to see when the product broke); its very subtle and there was no way I could climax using this toy, though it was pleasant and arousing aside from the ouch of the scratchy, hard string issue. I dont know honestly that I could recommend this toy to anybody.
